What is Microsoft Word?


Microsoft word developed by Microsoft, this Microsoft product is one of the famous products most organizations are using ms word to organize and write documents more efficiently. The basic functions of Microsoft word are - Creating text documents, Editing and formatting existing documents, Making a text document interactive with different features and tools, Graphical documents, Comprising images, used by authors and Research, and Delect grammatical errors in a text document, etc. 


What are common uses of Microsoft word?

MS Word enables users to do write-ups, and create documents, resumes, contracts, etc. This is one of the most commonly used programs under the Office suite.


How to use (create) Microsoft Word?

 First, you need to find MS word on your computer/laptop So, follow the simple steps - Start  → Press the window button from your keyboard → write MS Word → Blank document (New sheet). 


After opening the MS Word document now, you may see some tabs on top, let's discuss word tabs.

1. File 

File features help us to save documents, open new workbooks, print documents, share, export, etc.

2. Home

The HOME tab is divided into five groups – Clipboard (copy-paste), Font (customize text), Paragraph (paragraph spacing, borders, shading, etc.), Styles (already customized text styles), Editing (find, replace, select) also In-Ribbon Gallery & Dialog launcher.

3. Insert

Insert tab is divided into eleven groups – Pages (page editing), Tables (adding tables), Illustrations (shapes, pictures, charts, etc…), Reuse files (find and re-use part of the document), Add-ins (using the web), Media (insert videos offline), Links (add other links), Comments (add a comment), Header & Footer (header/footer/page number), Text (text box), symbols Tables (adding symbols), 

5. Draw

The draw tab helps us to highlight any word or create some drawings or do creative activities etc.

6. Design

The design in which you want your document to be created can be selected under the Design tab. Choosing an appropriate tab will enhance the appearance of your document.

7. Page Layout

Under the Page Layout tab comes groups like margins, orientation, columns, lines, indentation, spacing, etc. 

8. References

This tab is the most useful for those who are creating a thesis or writing books or lengthy documents. Options like citation, footnote, table of contents, caption, bibliography, etc. can be found under this tab.

9. Review

Spell check, grammar, Thesaurus, word count, language, translation, comments, etc. can all be tracked under the review tab. This acts as an advantage for those who get their documents reviewed on MS Word.
